Uninvited By Lysa TerKeurst
Living Loved When You Feel Less Than, Left Out and Lonely
I really enjoyed this book, it is funny and insightful, Lysa is very real, vulnerable even, not holding anything back. This is a book every woman can relate to.For me there were a couple of areas that were a little too much on the emotional wreak side of what women can be, you know the yucky craziness that our emotions drag us through. Now I know it is true I have struggled with it myself. Maybe I have become a bit callous even…. and need to work on being more sensitive in this area. Through my experiences, and efforts to keep that craziness from overtaking me, I have learned that feeling/emotions are very good liars and we need to separate ourselves from them especially when they get carried away. That being said; this book had many wonderful things to say, lessons to learn, it was organized and flowed very well, and was an enjoyable read. I highly recommend.
The main points I took away were:
- Listen to what comes out of your mouth, especially the words about yourself. They mean something, if you say, “oh, wow I can’t believe how stupid I am!” It is time to stop. Your value isn’t in this world or how this world measures. Your value is in God, and He loves you so very much. Don’t say such things about yourself, you are not perfect, nor will you be in this human form, you are NOT what comes out of your mouth either. So, stop saying those things about yourself.
- Don’t take “rejections” personally, remember that those who are supposedly “rejecting” you are hurting broken people, just like you. They may not even realize that they have made you feel rejected.
- “Live from the abundant place that you are loved” Chapter 3 – I absolutely love, love, love this! This alone could be an entire book, and I wish she would have developed it more. Women don’t live knowing they are loved, we live feeling as if we are not enough. When God says we are enough, who are we to question Him?
- “It’s impossible to hold up the banners of victim and victory at the same time.” Chapter 7
- It is often the hurts, rejections, disappointments, failing health, etcetera… that make us strong, develops us into who we were meant to be. We must remember that God is in everything, He can and will use this for your good. Trust in Him!
- Looking to a future “you” and future “fill in the blank” is never going to fill the gap or fix our problem. The problem is that we live in a fallen, broken world.
“It’s not about you becoming anything. Your soul was to simply be with Me. And the more you are with Me the more you will stop fearing what the world might take from you.” “With You, Jesus, I’m forever safe. I’m forever accepted. I’m forever held. Completely loved and always invited in.” Chapter 16
Overall, this book was not only good for spiritual growth and healing, it was also entertaining and a highly enjoyable read.
