Genuine Faith is Valuable to the Lord
In today’s H.E.A.R. Journal I find Peter explaining why our faith must be tested. Why? Because tested faith that has been proved genuine is valuable and precious to the Lord.
If you haven’t read my other H.E.A.R. journal post, let me give you a brief explanation.
If you do know what the H.E.A.R. Journal is you can skip down to 1 Peter 1:7.
H.E.A.R Journal
Doing a H.E.A.R. journal is a simple way to draw closer to the Lord as you read your Bible. As I do my daily Bible reading I pick out one (sometimes two) verses to take a closer look at. This is Highlighting a verse = H. is for highlight
Next you Explain what the verse means in your words. E. is for Explain
Here is where is gets personal and real. A is for application. How will I apply this verse to my daily life. A. is for Application
And finally I will respond. For me this is usually a prayer. Often I need to repent and ask for help in this area of my walk with the Lord. R. is for Response
1 Peter 1:7
H= Highlight
“so that the tested genuineness of your faith – more precious that gold that perishes thought it is tested by fire – may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 1:7 (ESV)
E= Explanation
Your faith will be tested. Why? Because genuine faith is valuable and precious to God. Tested faith that proves to be genuine results in praise, glory and honor to God. And even more praise, glory and honor upon the return of Christ Jesus.
A= Application
Don’t despise or resent the testing of your faith, or the trials you have to endure. Remember that such testing is for your good and God’s glory.
If you truly want to honor, praise and glorify God, then learn, or at least try, to embrace the tests, the trials, the struggles and the sufferings. Look for ways to glorify the Lord in the midst of it all.
R=Response
Lord God, this can be easy to say, and yes I can see and understand the truth of it. However, flesh fights against embracing such hardships. Help me to win this battle with the flesh. May the desire of my heart and my spirit be victorious in this today and every day I am in this body. I Lord God am not able but You are. Strengthen me, direct me and save me from this enemy as I call on You. You are my rock, my fortress, and my salvation. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen
“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.” Ps 18:2-3 (ESV)
